BIOGRAPHY OF Chief Jolasanmi Olaleye Akande Falore

Chief Ọlalẹyẹ Fálore was born on Monday, 6th October 1947 at the Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa, in present-day Osun State, Nigeria. He was born into the distinguished family of Pa Moses Oni Ayẹkọ-Falore and Madam Alice Basọla Fakanlu-Falore of Ifosan Quarter, Ilesa. As the first child of his parents, he occupied a special place within the family and was deeply cherished by both the Falore and Fakanlu families. From childhood, he was raised within a strong atmosphere of discipline, moral instruction, communal living, respect for elders, and Christian values, all of which shaped the foundation of his remarkable life.

Chief Fálore came from a proud and culturally rich Yoruba lineage with ancestral roots traced to the descendants of Oduduwa through the Olumọkọ dynasty of Ijero-Ekiti. He grew up listening to stories of courage, integrity, honour, resilience, and hard work from both his paternal and maternal families. His paternal grandfather, Pa David Ayẹkọ Falore, was particularly remembered as a disciplined and principled man whose character left a lasting impression on the family. These family traditions and values profoundly influenced Chief Fálore’s worldview and the manner in which he approached life, relationships, and service to humanity.

His early years were spent between Ifosan Quarter in Ilesa, Ido-Osun near Osogbo, and later Ijọka Quarter in Ilesa, where he lived for a period with his maternal grandparents during his father’s years of public service. These experiences exposed him to different aspects of Yoruba communal life and instilled in him a deep appreciation for culture, heritage, diligence, and education. Even as a child, he displayed remarkable intelligence, confidence, curiosity, and an extraordinary ability to observe and retain details about people, places, and events around him. Those who encountered him in his younger years often noticed his calm disposition, sharp memory, and reflective nature.

Chief Fálore began his formal education at St. John’s School, Iloro-Ilesa, where he distinguished himself as a brilliant and disciplined pupil. His academic promise earned him admission into the prestigious Government College, Ibadan (GCI), one of Nigeria’s foremost secondary schools. His years at Government College Ibadan played a major role in shaping his outlook on life, leadership abilities, discipline, and intellectual development. He remained immensely proud of his GCI heritage throughout his lifetime and often spoke fondly of the institution’s culture of excellence, discipline, courage, and character formation. The friendships, experiences, and values he gained at GCI remained lifelong treasures to him.

After completing his Higher School Certificate education in 1968, he faced the uncertainty common to many young Nigerians of his generation concerning employment and further education. Determined to remain productive while awaiting university admission, he applied for a teaching appointment with the then Western State Central Schools Board and was posted to Ifaki Grammar School, Ifaki-Ekiti, in 1969. At barely twenty-one years old, he embraced the teaching profession with maturity and dedication. His experiences in Ifaki-Ekiti became a defining period in his early adulthood, teaching him independence, resilience, and adaptability.

Life in Ifaki-Ekiti introduced him to realities very different from the urban environments he had previously known. He learned to live independently, manage domestic responsibilities, and adapt to a simpler lifestyle. Despite the challenges, he developed strong relationships with members of the community and earned respect through his discipline, humility, and commitment to duty. He often recalled his time in Ifaki with fondness, recognizing it as one of the formative experiences that prepared him for greater responsibilities later in life.

In 1969, his dream of university education was fulfilled when he gained admission into the prestigious University of Ibadan to study in the Faculty of Science. Entering Nigeria’s premier university was a moment of immense joy and fulfillment for him and his family. At the University of Ibadan, he studied Geology and immersed himself fully in academic and campus life. He resided at Mellanby Hall and participated in various intellectual, social, and student activities that broadened his perspectives and shaped his understanding of Nigeria and the wider world.

During his university years, Chief Fálore distinguished himself through seriousness of purpose, discipline, and intellectual curiosity. He developed lifelong friendships and encountered lecturers and mentors who enriched his academic and personal growth. Though reserved by nature, he participated actively in important conversations and events that shaped student life during that era. He witnessed and participated in periods of social and political consciousness among Nigerian students, experiences that deepened his understanding of leadership, governance, and national development.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology and subsequently participated in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme, which had recently been established following the Nigerian Civil War to promote national unity and integration. He was posted to Sokoto in Northern Nigeria, where he served diligently. His exposure to different cultures and regions of Nigeria during this period broadened his worldview and strengthened his appreciation for national unity and diversity.

Following his national service, Chief Fálore worked briefly as a classroom teacher at Queen’s School, Ibadan, where he taught Chemistry with dedication and excellence. However, his professional interests soon drew him into engineering consultancy and geological practice following a significant encounter with experienced professionals in the engineering sector. He thereafter built a distinguished career in engineering consultancy, geotechnical investigations, and geological services, contributing meaningfully to various developmental projects across Nigeria.

Chief Fálore later pursued further academic advancement at the University of Ife, now known as Obafemi Awolowo University, where he undertook postgraduate studies. He remained deeply proud of being a product of the Nigerian educational system and consistently upheld the dignity and excellence associated with the institutions he attended.

Over the course of his professional life, he worked in both public and private sectors, including consultancy practice and academic teaching. He later served as a lecturer at the Esa-Oke campus of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, where he impacted numerous students through his knowledge, mentorship, discipline, and practical approach to learning. His students and colleagues admired him for his depth of knowledge, integrity, simplicity, and dedication to excellence.

On 25th March 1978, Chief Ọlalẹyẹ Fálore was joined in holy matrimony to his beloved wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Olukemi Fálore. He believed strongly in loyalty, integrity, unity, and respect for family heritage. He was known within the family as a thoughtful adviser, dependable elder, and a man who cherished relationships deeply. His life reflected the Yoruba ideal of communal responsibility and family solidarity.

Chief Fálore possessed a remarkable gift for storytelling and historical recollection. He had a deep passion for preserving memories, documenting family histories, and sharing lessons from the past. This passion culminated in the writing of his autobiography titled *Before My Obituary*, in which he carefully chronicled his childhood experiences, educational journey, professional life, family background, cultural heritage, and reflections on life. Through this work, he preserved valuable historical accounts and personal experiences for future generations.

He carried himself with humility and quiet confidence and was widely respected for his wisdom, calm disposition, articulate speech, and thoughtful perspectives on life.

He also maintained a profound appreciation for Yoruba culture, traditions, and identity. He remained passionate about mentoring younger generations and frequently emphasized the importance of moral upbringing, education, cultural consciousness, and spiritual grounding. His Christian faith guided his outlook on life and sustained him through challenges and triumphs alike.

In addition to his professional and family commitments, Chief Fálore participated actively in community affairs and political activities within Ilesa and beyond.
